Deng Yujiao Released After Stabbing Official

And now we continue coverage of Chinese karaoke bar waitress Deng Yujiao who killed a Communist Party official. On Tuesday, a court released her, following public outrage over her arrest and treatment.
21-year-old Deng Yujiao stabbed the official to death with a fruit knife last month and injured his colleague. Ms. Deng alleges that the officials were intoxicated and cornered her, attempting to rape her while she was working at a karaoke parlor in Badong, Hubei Province.
Internet users have dubbed her a hero for standing up to corrupt officials.
And it’s her widespread internet fame that may have put pressure on the court. State media reported that after a two-hour trial, Ms. Deng was found guilty, but released without punishment because she acted in self-defense.
