Activist Lawyer’s Uneasy Freedom

Chinese activist lawyer Xu Zhiyong was released on bail on Sunday after more than three weeks in detention. His organization, The Open Constitution Initiative, took on legal cases that the Chinese regime considered sensitive.
Xu has been charged with tax evasion—and even though he’s out of jail now, the charges against him have not been dropped. According to his lawyers, if Xu is tried and found guilty, he could face up to seven years in prison.
Xu now waits for his case to be brought before prosecutors. In a phone interview with the Associated Press, Xu declined to give any details regarding his case or detention.
