China Appeals WTO Ruling

(NTDTV)
Chinese authorities have decided to appeal a recent ruling by the World Trade Organization, in a move that may increase trade tensions between China and the U.S.
Currently, any foreign company that wants to distribute films, music, or books in China has to go through a state-run distributor.
But last week, the WTO said that this policy violates international trade regulations. The ruling would force China to allow foreign companies to be distributors as well.
The WTO ruling is considered a major victory for the U.S., which filed the complaint in 2007.
A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce said Monday that they are preparing documents for an appeal. He also said that China should be allowed market controls because its economy is developing and its competitiveness is “still weak.”
According to WTO rules, China has 60 days to appeal the ruling before it’s officially adopted.
