China: Deadly Coal Mine Blast

A gas explosion in a coal mine in China’s Shanxi Province killed 11 workers on August the 24th. There were 16 workers in the mine, which is part of the Xingguang Coal Industry Company Ltd. Only two workers were rescued but three are still missing.
Officials are investigating the cause of the explosion.
Coal mine blasts have been recurring this year, exposing weaknesses in gas treatment and loopholes in management.
Explosions from gas built up in mines are a major safety threat to China’s coal industry.
