A gunman killed three judges, and injured three officials in a courthouse in China’s Hunan province on Tuesday. He then took his own life.
The gunman was identified as 46-year-old Zhu Jun, the head of security at the Lingling district post office.
Local authorities believe the shooting was an act of revenge. The court had ruled unfavorably against Zhu in a divorce settlement three years ago. But none of the judges Zhu killed were involved in that case, according to state-run media.
Gun violence is relatively rare in China because private ownership of firearms is prohibited. But in recent months, there’s been a spate of knife attacks on schoolchildren.
