Chinese authorities arrested the general manager of Shaanxi Jinqiao Diary Company, Liu Ping and two of the company’s employees, Miao Wenjun and Lu Xiaoqiang on December 2—suspected of producing and selling melamine-tainted milk.
In a scandal exposed last year, more than 300-thousand children were poisoned and at least six died after drinking melamine-tainted milk, according to official Chinese statistics.
Xinhua cited a police report, saying the men sold five and a quarter tons of tainted milk powder to Nanning Yueqian Food Additive Company in the southern region of Guangxi.
State-run Xinhua news agency reported the three men were arrested before the tainted goods reached any stores.
Last month, Chinese authorities executed two men in the northern city of Shijiazhuang for their part in producing melamine milk.
Melamine is a chemical used for manufacturing plastics. When it’s added to food it makes the protein content appear higher, but with devastating consequences for human health.
Many of the sickened children have developed kidney stones. Parents in the Mainland are still seeking compensation.
