Germany: Roman Bronze Horse Head Discovered

(NTDTV)
There’s a reason these photographers are so interested in this bronze horse’s head.
It’s 2000 years old and was found in western Germany.
Archaeologists say this relic is one of the best fragments ever found in the former Roman Empire.
[Eva Kuehne-Hoermann, Hesse State Minister]:
“As you can see, the piece in front of you has been excellently and artistically worked on, it is of high quality. Parallels between the design and the workmanship point us to Italy and the Mediterranean area.”

The horse’s head is thought to have made up part of a gold-plated statue of Roman Emperor Augustus.
Archaeologists also found this fragment of the Emperor’s shoe.
[Eva Kuehne-Hoermann, Hesse State Minister]:
“We really have found something which doesn’t exist anywhere else in this form, or in this quality. It is only still in this quality because it was found in a well. It was preserved differently by the water than it would have been by the air or if it had been somewhere else.”

The horse’s head was found here near the town of Waldgirmes.
Archaeologists have been excavating the remains of a Roman settlement here.
They’re still searching the mud from the well where the horse’s head was found.
And they’re confident they’ll find more Roman relics.
