A Houston-based musician, who saw Shen Yun at Jones Hall earlier this week, says that Shen Yun Performing Arts puts on a beautiful show.
[Ms. Tompkins, Musician]:
“I absolutely loved it. It was one of the most beautiful dance shows I think I have ever seen. The costumes were fabulous.”

The 20-year-old musician says the traditional Chinese instruments were memorable.
[Ms. Tompkins, Musician]:
“I have not had too much exposure to Chinese music before. And it was really an interesting experience, especially when she went up and played the erhu – I believe it was called. Erhu, I don’t speak Chinese, I don’t know – It was absolutely beautiful. I loved stringed instruments. Something I would like to incorporate, even in my own music.”

Ms. Tompkins says the Shen Yun dancers were very expressive.
[Ms. Tompkins, Musician]:
“I loved the way it incorporated the stories into the dance. I’m a musician so I always like to draw emotion from stories and see the expressions in the dancers’ faces as they’re telling the story. And that was really great for me.”

Dancer Ms. McWilliams says she was impressed by her first encounter with Chinese classical dance.
[Ms. McWillians, Dancer]:
“Everyone was technically proficient. They were absolutely excellent – everyone was. I have never really seen classical Chinese dancing before, so a lot of the movements were a little bit different from what I am used to.”
