Violence in China’s northern city of Tonghua: 30,000 steel workers clashed with police, protesting the merger of their steel mill with another company. The protest occurred on Friday when employees of Tonghua Iron and Steel Group demonstrated against the takeover by the Beijing based Jianlong Steel. The Associated Press reported that Tonghua employees beat Jianlong Steel general manager Mr. Chen Guojun to death during the incident. Jianlong took over Tonghua last year but dropped the company when steel prices fell. A second takeover bid was proposed this year after prices rebounded.
