Relentless rain continues to trigger disastrous floods across southern China. State-run media reports that at least 46 people have been killed and thousands more have been displaced in the past two weeks.
In Hunan Province, 400,000 people in over 100 towns have been affected by floods triggered by days of heavy rainfall.
Water levels remained at alarming levels on Thursday in rivers in Jiangxi and Guangxi provinces. The National Meteorological Center issued a rainstorm alert on Thursday as more rain is expected to hit southern China over the coming days.
The heavy rain and landslides have also disrupted rail and road networks and damaged power lines across the region.
China’s flood season is notoriously deadly. At least 200 people have died in floods and related disasters across the country this summer and thousands of homes have been destroyed.
